Project details

Univar, a £4bn global chemical company with over 600 sites across the world, had a requirement to improve their maintenance management and to reduce the potential of safety critical asset failures by implementation of condition monitoring.

Project overview

Asset Handling was selected as Univar’s Solution Partner to implement a new CMS System  incorporating real-time condition monitoring and live telemetry feeds from customers sites. The project included the creation of an asset data hierarchy from the site drawings and asset validation and condition surveys out on the sites.

Project brief

Asset Handling have started the implementation with the Calishead Comah Site in Manchester where 1780 assets were surveyed on site then imported in to the AIM CMS system against the asset data Hierarchy which we configured from the P&IDs.

Resource allocation

Asset Handling utilised a specialist asset condition survey partner to carryout the Asset surveys on the site and, due to the site being an ATEX Zone 1 site,  we procured and used ATEX rated Cameras and IPADS to collect the asset data. Once the data collection was completed our developers then imported the asset data into the system where our Consultants reviewed the data and rated the conditions and residual life.

Our engineers fitted our AH21 condition monitoring devices directly to the assets that monitor the assets vibration, temperature acoustics and power in real time. The units communicate the data back to the AIM CMS system and alert users of any abnormalities before any failures occur.

Our development team added bespoke system functionality for Univar to enable the following:

  • Bar code scanning of the assets to show works required and asset history
  • Workflow to automate follow up work and work order status based on inspection results
  • Full suite of KPI Reports based on customer KPI’s

Project management

We utilised our Programme Management Software (PIM Programme insight)  as the project Management tool for the project, which provided the Customer with self-serve schedule up-dates on the projects progress, performance and any potential issues and risks that arise. We also held a weekly conference call with the key customer contacts to discuss the forth coming weeks planned activities.

Project deliverables

  • The projects key deliverables were to provide:
  • full visibility of the asset’s current status
  • all planned and historic works
  • its live condition and any potential threats.
  • visibility of engineer performance, work load
  • KPI Achievement
  • The ability to benchmark people, sites, systems and assets.

Project outcomes

By Implementing our customised AIM CMS System at Calishead Univar now have the tools and the data to do the following:

  • View a Current and Accurate Site assets lists within a logical ADH
  • Plan and schedule work orders to the engineering teams for them to complete on an ATEX IPAD
  • Receive alerts to designated email and phone numbers of a detected pending asset failure
  • View All planned, reactive and breakdown maintenance of an asset.
  • View KPI Performance
  • View and benchmark engineer productivity
  • Check Statutory compliance performance
  • Improve Site safety
  • Optimise asset life cycle planning
  • Benchmark assets/System performance
